We are about halfway through the high school hockey season in the state of Ohio and the cream of the crop is beginning to rise to the top!
Currently, in the Great Lakes Hockey League (GLHL) the St. Edward’s Eagles are atop of the league standings with six total points in three league games played. The Eagles have played the most league games so far, as all other teams have played a maximum of two league games.
In the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League the Rocky River Pirates, Mentor Cardinals, and Benedictine Bengals are all tied for the lead in the Red Division, the top division in the league, with two points all.
In the latest Ohio High School Hockey Coaches Poll there are four teams represented in the top 10. The St. Edward’s Eagles claim the top spot with a record of 13-1-1, followed by the Gilmour Academy Lancers claiming the third-ranking with a record of 5-3-1, then the St. Ignatius Wildcats currently in fifth with a record of 7-6-1, and the University School Preppers round out the top ten with a record of 3-8.
Check back soon for another update on local high school hockey!

What a fantastic way to end the 2018 summer season! Our finals night provided those in attendance with two action packed championship games from both the U17 and U19 divisions. Our first game of the night was in the U-19 division between top seed and defending champs – DSG, and second seed Ganas Gear. DSG came out flying in the first half by taking a 5-0 lead. After the first half they never took their foot off the peddle. Even with Ganas’ high flying offense DSG was able to take the championship for the second year in a row by the final score of 6-1. Stick taps to Evan McBride for his MVP performance. In the second game of the night top seeded Performance Central took on the fourth seeded underdog, Monsters. Performance Central came in hot and jumped out to a three goal lead early in the first half, only for the Monsters to storm back to tie it at 3-3 before the first half was over. The second half was very tight and featured some end to end action. Performance Central stood strong and was able to come away with the 5-3 victory. Second half goaltender Evan Wrightsman from Performance Central shut the door earning his Finals MVP!
Congratulations to Dick’s Sporting Good’s and Performance Central on winning their respective divisions regular season and post season championships!
The futures league commission would like to recognize four players from each division for their outstanding play this summer.
